Romans 6: 1-14

As we continue with our reading of Paul’s letter to the Romans and Paul begins telling the people about how we die to our sin and rise to new life in Christ. But what does that really mean?

When we become a true believer, our faith in Christ has saved us from our sin as we discussed in previous chapters. Jesus’ death on the cross gave us the ability through God’s grace to no longer be a slave to our sin.

Instead, we are now obedient, faithful servants of God. In order to do that, we have to “die” to our sin. When we fully commit our lives to Christ, we are free from sin’s control over our lives. We have to be willing to set aside our old ways. We cannot just say we believe and then go back to doing what we know to be a sin. It is a conscious decision to turn our back on that sin forever. To die to that sin.

I read a commentary by Matthew Henry on Christianity.com. He states “True believers are dead to sin, therefore they ought not to follow it. No man can at the same time be both dead and alive. He is a fool who, desiring to be dead unto sin, thinks he may live in it.”

I highly recommend reading the whole commentary if you have time.

When we are fully walking our daily life with the Father, we will experience an incredible freedom. We are a new creation as it states in 2 Corinthians 5:17

Therefore, if anyone is in Christ, the new creation has come: The old has gone, the new is here!

2 Corinthians 5:17

I pray today you find that freedom from sin. If you have not been baptized, I pray it is something that you will consider. If you want to talk to someone about it, please reach out to me. I was recently baptized and I would love to share my experience with you.
