In the next verses in Mark, Jesus is telling three parables to try to explain the kingdom of God to those who have gathered. Instead of trying to explain all three myself, as I am no expert, I have found three articles that i feel have great commentary on these parables.
The first is the lamp under a basket. I am sure there are many interpretations of these parables, but what I take it to mean is that our faith in Christ is not something that should be hidden. Just like we would not hide a lamp under a basket or our bed, why would we want to hide the light of Christ? I found this awesome sermon by Jeff Stott that sheds a lot of meaning into this parable. Please take time to read it as he puts it into words so much better than I can.
The second is the parable of the seed growing. God is growing the seeds of faith in peoples lives according to His will. I found another great article by Gerald M. Bilkes that gives a great commentary on this parable.
The third parable is the mustard seed. Something that seems small, and inconsequential can turn into something bigger than ever imagined. I turned to Jeff Stott again for his insight.
Please take time today to read through these articles, as I know they will help to explain in more detail each of these parables.
I pray today that God will speak to you through these teachings. That you will shine your light and not keep it hidden. That you will grow like the seed and watch the kingdom continue to expand.
